Medicare Advantage
What’s a Medicare Advantage plan?
Medicare Advantage plans are Part C plans provided as an alternative to Original Medicare. They’re offered by private companies like Health Alliance that contract with Medicare, cover many medical services and some include prescription coverage.
Health Alliance Medicare offers HMO and PPO Medicare Advantage plans. Our Rx plans provide prescription drug coverage.
What doctors and hospitals can I go to?
When you choose a Medicare Advantage plan, a group of doctors and hospitals (called a provider network) comes with it.
Your plan provides a list (called a provider directory) of doctors and hospitals that you can use. With some plans, you can use any doctor or hospital, but you will pay less if you use those listed in the provider directory.
Search the Health Alliance Medicare Provider Directory to see all the doctors and hospitals in the Health Alliance Medicare network.
What services are covered, and what do I pay?
Medicare Advantage plans include coverage for both Part A and Part B. They cover what Original Medicare covers and more, plus many plans include drug coverage.
With most Medicare Advantage plans you pay:
- A set amount per month (called a premium) for your health care coverage.
- A percentage of the cost (called coinsurance) or a set fee (called a copayment) each time you use medical services—for example, each time you visit the doctor. (With some plans you might pay nothing for certain services.)
Most Medicare Advantage plans cover:
- Hospital stays, care in skilled nursing facilities, hospice care and home health care
- Visits to doctors and specialists
- Outpatient surgery and rehabilitation services
- Annual physicals and eye exams
- Preventive services like vaccines and screenings
- Emergency care and ambulance services
